Are some animals smarter then humans?

The answer is yes there are 7 animals that are smarter then humans. We always think we run the show on earth but truth is we don't always.
  • Homing Pigeons - Most humans need GPS to find their way home after a long journey, the homing pigeon can return from extremely long distances without any guidance.
  • Ants - Despite their size, the world;s many varieties of ants have amazing skills. One most impressive is the mycocepurus smithii from the Amazon, a super feminist species that has developed the ability to reproduce via cloning.
  • Elephants - Can keep track of up to 30 absent members of their family by sniffing out their scent and building a mental map of where they are. They can even tell whether a human is friendly or a threat by their scent and color clothing.
  • Termites - Have technique to farm a specific fungus they feed on. This fungus only grows at 87 Degrees Fahrenheit. The termites have come up with a system to keep the temperature steady in their mounds by constantly opening and closing heating and cooling vents.
  • Chimps - have an extraordinary working memory capability for numerical recollection. This allows them to have photographic memory.
  • Crows - they have an amazing capacity for fast adaptation and ability to live in cities. They could one day top us.
  • Dolphins - OK not smarter then humans yet but they have been declared the world's second most intelligent creatures(after humans). Their brains are only second in mass to the human brain, making them cultural animals with distinct personalities with the ability to think about the future, among other faculties.

Weird to know that there are animals that can do things we can not do. On the other hand maybe we can learn a few things from them and work together to have a better atmosphere.

Mysterious Cave on Mars

A group of 7-Th grade students from Evergreen Middle School in Cottonwood, California discover a Martian skylight-a hole in the roof of a cave on Mars. The students were participating in the Mars student imaging program at the Mars Space Flight Facility at Arizona State University. The program allows students to frame a research question, then commission a Mars-orbiting camera to take an image to answer their question. Scientist Glen Cushing suggest that these holes are like skylights. At some point the lava channels likely carved out caverns in the rock, and then left behind a tunnel, or a "lava tube" when the eruptions were over. They would have been covered when a solid ceiling of cooled material settled on top, and then sections of the ceiling likely collapsed at come point to form a skylight entrance. Cushing told the students "this pit is certainly new to us, and is only the second one known to be associated with Pavonis Mons." Scientist estimated the pit to be approximately 620 by 520 feet wide and 380 feet deep at the least. The students are very please with their visit and had the opportunities to help and see how thing work when something new is discovered.
What a fun day that would be wouldn't it? This would have been one project i wouldn't want to miss out on, these kids are now a part of history. Its crazy, you never no what will happen and where... this is another reason we should get out and live life!

Teacher fired after beating a student

Sherri Davis was a science teacher at Jamie's House Charter School. She was terminated on Monday night for beating a 13 year old student. The attack lasted only a few minutes but to young Isaiah Johnson is was much longer. Isaiah was left with a knot on his head, a black eye, and many bruises on his cheeks from the beating. A student near by caught the attack on a cell phone video camera. The video now in custody of the Harris County police to be used as evidence against Sherri Davis. Alesha Johnson , the mother of the student, was outraged and horrified by the situation. The attack is much worst then it sounds, check out the video for yourself at http://www.myfoxhouston.com/

If i was a parent i would be very upset with this, how does something like this happen and why? If you are a teacher how could u hurt a student, better yet one as young as Isaiah! She was throwing this kid around like a rag doll, how could you think this acceptable to do? This is down right crazy and wrong, this women should go to jail for this, thank god for cell phones, you never know when someone will catch you in the act of doing something wrong.

?Cant wear American flags on Cinco de Mayo?

Administrators at a California high school sent home five students for wearing American Flag shirts and bandannas on Cinco de Mayo. The five students: Daniel Dalli, Austin Carvalho, Matt Dariano, Dominic Maciel, and Clayton Howard- were told to turn their shirts inside out or be sent home, but it would not count as a suspension. The administrators reasoning was; they did not want any fights breaking out between Mexican-American students celebrating their heritage and those wearing American flags. Other students were told the same thing and put decided to change and put their stuff away.

I do see how some students might take this in the wrong way, but i do not see a big fight breaking out, unless this school is in the ghetto. Now i understand what this school was trying to do, and it is their job to protect the safety of the students. On the other hand, it is just a shirt and we do live in America. That's like saying in Mexico on July 4Th students shouldn't be allowed to wear the Mexican flag. I do not think this should have been such a big problem, and the administrators were a little out of line.

Study: Brain games don't make you smarter

The Associated Press-London reads, in a six-week study, experts found people who played online games designed to improve their knowledge didn't get any smarter. More than 8,600 people aged 18-60 were asked to play brain games at least 10 minutes a day, three times a week. They were compared to more than 2,700 people who didn't play any brain games, but similar amount of time surfing the Internet. All participants were given a sort of I.Q. test before and after the experiment. People who play brain games do not get any smarter, on some sections people who surfed the net scored higher.

I can see how in some cases this is true, on the other hand, children's games are very educational. With our technology we have found a way to attract children to learn in a way they can understand and grasp the situation. Some games even reach out to adults and seniors. I think it depends on the layout and design on the game, as well as it purpose of existence. Some games are made for fun, but always keeps your brain busy, and some are made to teach people.

7 relationship deal breakers according to men

Most women assume that men don't obsess over details in a relationship, but what do you know they care more then we think. In fact they notice a lot of little things from the way you smile when you are truly happy, to what you eat in the morning. Here are a few things that bother men, I'm sure we wont all agree with them, but according to the men most of these are a big problem.

  1. She talks down to the help
  2. She's a picky eater
  3. She's sexually manipulative
  4. Her ides of "happily ever after" doesn't match with his
  5. She's a therapy junkie
  6. She has an abrasive laugh
  7. She's in her twenties

I know that i don't agree with some of these, like number 7? What does being in your twenties have to do with anything? If anything we are more mature then men at this age, women mature much faster then men. Of course every man is going to have different details they do not like, but as women we should take the time to stop and listen, this could help many of our relationships.

Man rams car into parked plane

In Calabar, Nigeria a man rammed his car into a parked plane, the man claimed to have been sent by Jesus to punish sinners. The plane only had the attendants on board, no one was hurt, i wonder how well this plan was thought out! He had no problems going with security, the U.S. has put Nigeria on a list of countries needing to improve security. The suspect was heard yelling that all Nigerians were sinners and must repent or perish. He broke through two security gates and ran into the plane with his car before the soldiers got to him.

I'm not sure about you guys but i figured security all over the world has reached to the max after all the terrorist attacks that have happen over the years. This is just a horrible plan, if your going to run into a plane lets make sure there are more then a few people in there!(joke by the way, no one should try and do this) I think the U.S. sure be sure to have extremely tight security when it comes to people coming here from other countries.

Everyone from children to adults, as well as businesses have joined in on the April fools fun! The city of Topeka, Kan. has been wanting to change its name to Google, so the search engine known as Google decided to have a little fun with the web. Google changed their name to Topeka on their website for the day! The hot topic on chat lines and facebook was the sudden change of Googles name.

Starbucks is getting in on the fun as well, The coffee giant announced on its company blog that there will soon be 2 new drink sizes. "Plenta" a hefty 128 ounces, while a "Micra" is a tiny 2 ounces. But that's not all TechCrunch compete each year for the most outrageous April Fool's jokes. They announced their efforts to build a cheap, web surfing tablet PC, a device that would have been called the CrunchPad and would have competed with the Apple iPad.

I think it is great to see people all over taking the time out to have a laugh every now and then. Very smart move for businesses to play along, for one you get free publicity, and you show your customers your businesses is laid back and friendly! No worries for the companies that missed out on this tip, there is always next year. I hope everyone got a good laugh in today :)

21 baby bodies found in China river

Reported today, Tuesday March 30, 2010 21 bodies washed ashore on the riverbank in eastern China. Stashed in yellow plastic bags that are marked "medical waste" include infants several months old among some fetuses. Some babies tagged with all their personal information such as: Mother/fathers names, weight, and birth dates. They have tracked eight of the bodies to the hospital in Jining, three of them where admitted earlier to the hospital in critical condition. The other thirteen bodies were unidentified. An official from Affiliated Hospital of Jining Medical College confirmed it was involved. They clam the babies with identification on them, are from their hospital, but the others are not. The medical staff that are involved in this mess are suspend until the investigation is over.

I am not sure how to react to this article. Why where these baby bodies thrown in the river? That is what criminals do to dispose of the mess they have created. This is a hospital, don't they have a certain place where bodies go? And where are the parents of these children? Even if my baby was only a few months old i would want a proper burial. I know things are not the same in China as they are in the U.S. but thins like this should be taken care of in a proper manner. Local people should not have to see things like this washing up on shore. I feel for the ones that did help recover the bodies out of the water, i know it couldn't be easy for most of them. I have a feeling this investiagtion wil uncover a lot, and may find information that will shock the world.

Ban Smoking in all State Parks?

On Thursday California lawmakers will consider what is believed to be the nation's most far-reaching smoking ban in state parks as a way to get unsightly cigarette butts off the beach, eliminate second-hand smoke and reduce the threat of wildfires.
Maine banned smoking at its state beaches last year, but no states prohibits lighting up throughout its entire park system. Under legislative compromise, campsites and parking areas will be exempted from the ban. Jenny Oropeza says "It is very clear that the garbage that is created as a result of smoking on beaches are polluting our water. In terms of the state park system, we have a major fire hazard when cigarettes are smoked in parks."
If caught smoking on these grounds a after this bill is passed, you will be charged with a $100 fine. Similar smoking bans are being considered in Hawaii, New Hampshire, New Jersey and New York.

I am personally trying to quit smoking, doing a great job only one here and there. I think this is a great idea for outdoor life. The butts do pile up fast if no one is picking them up, and could be eaten by an animal and cause serious damage to their body.I know its not as fair to ban smoking outside opposed to a bar/restaurant, but we will gain more out of the ban. We would be saving animals, wildlife, littering, and water pollution all of which need improvement. I would recommend this bill to all states, this could also decrease the number of smokers in each state, which will lead to a healthier America! :)

10 ways to keep your mind sharp!

We all have our days where we feel like our brain is not getting enough activity. It is good to keep our mind busy even when we are having a lazy day. here are 10 ways you can keep your brain in shape.
  1. Tease your brain- crossword puzzles, sudoku, and Mahjong Titans actually keep your brain in shape. It keeps your brain active without you having to be active, great to do in your downtime when you watch TV.
  2. Skip the supplements- brain pills such as Ginkgo and Melatonin belong in the trash. Despite their "natural" origins, they are not free of potential side effects.
  3. Chill out- stress takes a toll on the brain by washing harmful chemicals over the hippocampus and other brain areas involved in memory.
  4. Eat fish- essential fatty acids, such as Omega 3s, are critical to brain function and proving beneficial for treating such brain-sapping ailments as depression.
  5. Enjoy your coffee- growing evidence suggests a caffeine habit may protect the brain.
  6. Get your beauty rest- when we rest and dream, memories are sifted through, some discarded, others consolidated and saved. When we don't sleep, a recent study found, proteins build up on synapses, possibly making it hard to think and learn new things.
  7. Take care of your body- system wide health concerns have been linked to an increased risk of cognitive decline and memory impairments. Keep your circulatory system in working order by, avoiding cigarettes and saturated fat.
  8. Watch the diet- overindulging can make the brain sluggish and lead to long-term detriments to your brain. Too few calories can also impair brain function.
  9. Eat, eat, eat- too much or too little energy throws a kink in the brains dedicated machinery.A steady pace of digestion in the gut gives a more reliable flow of energy to the brain, and likely optimizing the organ's long-term health and performance.
  10. Do something- scientists say, regular aerobic exercise may be the single most important thing you can do for the long-term health of your brain. for mental fitness, aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity every other day.

Now lets keep our brain going! I figured this would be a great article since we are going on spring break, and i know not very many of us do any school work while on break! Have a great week!:)

Leasbain teen sues school over prom drama

In Jackson Mississippi Constance McMillen wanted to take her girlfriend to her senior prom, is asking the federal judge to force her school to reinstate the dance as canceled. The American Civil liberties Union of Mississippi filed a lawsuit on the in Oxford on behalf of McMillen. The lawsuit seeks a court order to hold the prom and allow her to escort her girlfriend, who is a fellow student and wants to wear a tuxedo, which the school said also violated policy. The district's decision came in after the ACLU demanded that officials change the banning policy on same-sex prom dates because it is a violation of student rights. Mcmillen says " a lot of people told her this would happen, she figures the school had already spent too much money on the prom, she never thought they would cancel it. The school board statement said it wouldn't host the event "due to distractions to the educational process caused by recent events"
New Orleans hotel owner Sean Cummings told the Clarion-Leader of Jackson he was so disappoints with the school boards decision, he offered to transport the students by bus to the city and give them a free prom his self!

Same-sex prom dates and cross-dressing are new issues for many high schools. More gay couples are coming out of the closet and ready to live a normal life like everyone else. Why should we hold people back from truly expressing their self? I could not believe this school, i mean come on our capital just passed a same-sex marriage law but we cant let 2 girls go to prom together? I give thanks to Sean Cumming, that is about the sweetest thing i have seen someone do in awhile. He understands what this prom means to theses teens, and wants them to be who they are not who the world thinks they should be!!!! As for those that agree with the school board, you don't see people trying to stop you from being with your special someone. Take the time to think and put yourself in her shoes, you would want to have your freedom too, that's what this country is all about, and now people want to take it away? As you can tell I feel strongly about this article, I am bi, meaning i date girls as well. This is 2010 people we are not in the 50's anymore. Teachers say they want us to express our true self, well we are knocking on the door and expressing our TRUE self, and we aren't going away

Fake Weed- K2

If underage drinking and rising prescription drug abuse wasn't enough to worry about, now parents now have another substance to be on the look out for - one that is completely legal, unregulated and available almost anywhere. It's an herbal product called "K2" better known by teens as "fake weed."K2 is a mixture od natural herbs, produces a high similar to marijuana and it is reportedly "natural." Teens therefore believe the fake weed is safe.
Dr. Anthony Scalzo, professor of toxicology at Saint Louis University and director of the Missouri Regional Poison Control Center, has recently reported 30 cases in which teens were reporting symptoms after smoking K2. These symptoms included:

  • Hallucinations
  • Severe Agitation
  • Vomiting
  • Elevated heart rate
  • Elevated blood pressure
  • Tremors and seizures
Scalzo said the plant mixture is sprayed with a psychotropic drug known as JWH 018, which is certainly not "natural. "But Scalzo also thinks K2 is also contaminated with a unknown toxic substance that causes many of the symptoms that he has seen in teens.
What to think about this, it does not surprise me that since marijuana is not legal people would buy things that are similar to the drug. I think companies should investigate the products they are producing to market. Parents should be aware of K2 and products similar to this. Personally marijuana should be legal, if it was this would not be a problem.

How to save money on your grocery bill

The family food shopper searches for any way to cut back on the amount of money spent on food. The best way to save money is coupons, there are tons of coupons circulating every day. Taking the time to clip out coupons can cut your food budget by 30 to 50%- even more if you turn it into a hobby. You have to be patient, flexible and perhaps and perhaps give up your favorite brand, but you will be rewarded with savings.
Food coupons can be found everywhere. The Sunday paper is usually the best source, you can also try looking online, public libraries, gas stations, and the grocery store its self. Be sure and note expiration dates, don't let them go to waste. Here are some successful strategy for coupons:
  • Organize before you shop- Keep coupons sorted by food type in an easy to search through container and match coupons with your grocery list.
  • Use store loyalty card programs- Sign up for a store loyalty card that usually offers coupons plus bonus points that are cumulative each time you shop.
  • Compare ads- It may pay you to drive to more than one store if it's an item you need, have a coupon and it's not available anywhere else. But, before you burn up extra gas, ask if the store honors its competitor's coupons. Many will do this just to keep you in the store. You can call ahead to save a trip.
  • Don't buy too much- Don't be fooled by the 2 for a dollar marketing tool unless it's to your advantage with a coupon. Unless you need 2 of the product or use the product often.
With the economy being as bad as it is, i figured this could help some that are in need. I know every trip i make to the grocery store, i leave spending way more money then i intended. I forget about coupons as i am sure many do you. We can all use tips on saving money, i hope this helped many of you.

Health Tip: Introduce your child to music

Article found on www.news.yahoo.com - Health Day News
Listening to music offers many benefits to children: it musically inclined kids appear better at math and reading, better focus, improved self-esteem and more social.
The Newmours Foundation offers theses suggestions for involving your child in music:
  • Listen to music or sing songs while your doing chores around the house, driving, or playtime.
  • Get some kid-friendly musical instruments and Cd's, and have them readily available for your child.
  • Find out if your child's school incorporates music and singing. Learn the song they play at school.
  • Enroll your child in an age-appropriate music class/dance.
  • Take your child to see live music. (specifically for young children, if possible.

I enjoyed this article, i think more children should be involved with music and instruments. Music offers many advantages for a young child. I personal believe each school should have a music class taken daily, so each student can express their self. Music helps us threw our day to day lives, and some of us can even make it into a career some day. For parents that do have young children, i would suggest researching how faster a child's mind develops that are involved in music. We are always looking for new ways to make our children smarter. Good luck parents!

Tiger Woods back from family counseling

Article found on http://www.news.yahoo.com/

Tiger Woods returned to his home near Orlando on Saturday, after spending a week in family counseling in Arizona, trying to get back into his fitness routine. "Woods has been seen hitting balls on the range at Isleworth, not far from where he ran his SUV into a fire hydrant and a tree in the middle of the night on Nov. 27, setting off shocking relations of infidelity."
"Woods was photographed hitting balls at Isleworth on Feb 18, the day before he ended nearly three months of silence by speaking to a small group of associates at the TPC Sawgrass in a 13 1/2-minute statement that was televised around the world."
He will not be attending the World Golf Championship at Doral, Woods says he is not sure when he will return to professional golf. He has already been dropped by sponsors: Accenture, ATT&T and Gatorade. Other companies- such as Procter and Gamble's Gillette- have been suspended promotions of Woods while he talk his break from golf.
Where do I begin, Tiger Woods is just another man, like any other, and how many of us know men that cheat and are unfaithful? Yes everyone in the world knows who he is, but why should this effect his professional career? This man is famous for being the best at golf, his personal life is really none of any ones business. I felt in this article that the author was bashing on Woods, if you look at the few sentences i have in " " you will notice the bad mouthing. This man has done nothing wrong that any other man hasn't, so why is he being hounded on? I think his choice is wise, and he should return at his own pace, i wish him luck on trying to get out of this mess. I do not agree with him being an unfaithful husband, but that had no effect on who i think is the best at professional golf.

New species of dinosaur found in eastern Utah rock

Fossils of a previously undiscovered species of dinosaur have been found in slabs of Utah sandstone that were so hard that explosives had to be used to free some of the remains, scientists said Tuesday 23, 2010. The bones found at Dinosaur National Monument belonged to a type of sauropod — long-necked plant-eaters that were said to be the largest animal ever to roam land. The new species is called Abydosaurus mcintoshi. Researchers say it's part of the larger brachiosaurus family, hulking four-legged vegetarians that include sauropods.

The fossils offer fresh insight into lives of dinosaurs some 105 million years ago, including the evolution of sauropod teeth.Of the 120 or so known species of sauropods, complete skulls have been found for just eight. That's mostly because their skulls were made of thin, fragile bones bound by soft tissue that were easily destroyed after death. The findings are being published this week in the peer-reviewed science journal Naturwissenschaften.

Now who doesn't love the sound of this? It enlightens me that we are still discovering different species. To know that the world was once a land of dinosaurs, that roamed free instead of city lights, polluted air, and the human populations blows my mind. I guess you never know what you can find if you dig a little.

Here comes Obama's job stimulus

With the nation's unemployment hovering around 10%, Obama administration is releasing a new job stimulus plan. This plan will pump $150 billion into businesses around the nation to encourage hiring and growth; it is expected to create thousands of new jobs in virtually every industry. Obama plans on getting this plan going as soon as possible, it is expected to move through Congress quickly, we may be seeing effects of the plan as soon as March.
Janet Hill says, "the real question is, will you be ready to get those job? The people who go out and get the skills and education get first pick. Fortunately, unemployed workers can get ready for these jobs with online classes and degree programs, which can be completed in a few months."
Its a good thing we are all already in school, i think this plan can help out a lot with all of our problems. We are working hard trying to go to school, as well as providing for our families at the same time; many of us can not even find a job. On the other hand, couldn't this bring us into more debt as a nation?

Hard times push more women to strip clubs

Atlanta applications for adult entertainment permits have spiked in the last few years. like the rest of the world adult entertainment has taken a hit, but its not slowing down the dancers from paying the $350 for a permit. Even in this tough economy, a dancer can clear about $50,000 a year, that beats working in a dentist's office or selling homes right now. Women who may not have ever thought about working in the industry are rethinking. By day they are dental hygienists, college students, and office workers, by night they are on the main stage with a fake name. You can use the industry in one of two ways, as a stepping stone or a tombstone. Usually the industry is a pass through so women can go on to bigger and better things.
Is it bad that our economy has become this bad to were more girl are stripping to pay bills? I can understand where these ladies are coming from, somtimes you have to do what you can to support your family. It is sad to see our world come down to things like this.

Facebook pulls 30 UK inmates pages after taunts

Article from Yahoo.com

Facebook removed the profiles of 30 UK inmates after several incidents, prisoners reportedly used the social networking site to organize crime and taunt other online. British prisoners are now banned from all Internet access, except for educational purpose under supervision.
Justice Secretary Jack Straw said, "What we've got to do is set up a better system with Facebook so that if they get a notice from us that this site is improper, then all they have to do is not make a judgment about it but press the delete button." Facebook said they take problems like this serious, they will delete any accounts that do not follow their rules.

Can i say WOW!!!! I'm not sure if i am the only one, when going to prison you shouldn't have the right to be on the Internet or the right to do much at all. Yes for educational purpose i understand, to communicate with the outside world is out of the question for me. The world wide web is already an wild and unruly place, we do not need inmates sharing their prison life, and taunting innocent people!

London opens 1st exercise area for elderly

Article found at Yahoo.com
"Every park has a children's playground, very few have playground's for adults, and none have playground's for the elderly" said Madelin Elsdon, local resident helping fund money to build the park. London has began working on the project to build a playground for the elderly in popular Hyde Park. The project funds are already at a $60,000 and continues to climb higher as more people insist on contributing. The park will have six pieces of equipment bought in Denmark, including a stationary bicycle, a cross-trainer and a sit-up bench. This is a great way to encourage older people to exercise, socialize, and could possibly alleviate feelings of loneliness and depression. They are naming it "Hyde Park Senior Playground" but anyone of any age is welcome to exercise at the park.

I think this is a wonderful idea, older people do not get out much, this could help with many things as well as health. I can honestly say i am jealous, Joplin has nothing that comes close to a park like this. I would love to pitch this idea to the people of Joplin, we have perfect scenery for such a thing. This could help us with the weight problems we are having in this area. We all need our exercise, elderly people as well, staying in shape will keep us living longer.

How To Legally Erase Up to 60% of your Credit Card Debt

I found this article on howlifeworks.com
Every adult you know has some kind of debt, as people we love to shop and spend money we do not have, and place on a credit card because its quick and you can pay it back later. As long as i can remember, everyone told me to not get a credit card, and if so use it right or else you will end up like the rest of the world. I have always been one of those people that only learn by doing, so of course i have a few credit cards. As a girl i have a little bit of a shopping problem like the rest of us haha. I made the choice to get student credit cards, this only allows you to have a low limit. I would suggest the same for anyone else.
The article states credit card companies have become more understanding to the fact that most Americans do not have the money to pay back what they owe. All depending on your financial situation credit card companies will often reduce interest rates, waive fees and penalties, or even erase or "forgive" up to 60% of your debt.
It entertains me that debt collectors will call you all day like the boy who is obsessed with, and now they have "turned over a new leaf" and is calling to as, what can you afford to pay? I am very glad to see that they are putting their self in other peoples shoes. For anyone have this problem you can go to http://www.debtreliefcenter.com/ and see what kind of options they give you!

Haiti food convoy attacked....

This world never ceases to amaze me, I don't understand how anyone could steal food and things that have been donated to victims that have suffered such a tragedy. On Saturday twenty armed men blocked a road and tried to hijack a convoy caring food from the airport in Jeremie. The men fled the scene after U.N. and Haitian officers fired warning gunshots.
In Jacmel, also a southern city, 33 prisoners escaped when the prisons collapsed. Mobs have stolen food and looted goods from the many victims that are living in squalid tents of sheets and sticks. This has cause neighbors in the camp to join together and protect their survival materials, by either banding together or staying awake all night to prevent raids.

I am not sure if I am an unusual person, but i feel like the greed has taken over too many people in the world. Why steal when you can join and help? Why do people only think of their self? There is alwasy a big picture to see, we just need to grind our eyes open wide!
