The Associated Press-London reads, in a six-week study, experts found people who played online games designed to improve their knowledge didn't get any smarter. More than 8,600 people aged 18-60 were asked to play brain games at least 10 minutes a day, three times a week. They were compared to more than 2,700 people who didn't play any brain games, but similar amount of time surfing the Internet. All participants were given a sort of I.Q. test before and after the experiment. People who play brain games do not get any smarter, on some sections people who surfed the net scored higher.
I can see how in some cases this is true, on the other hand, children's games are very educational. With our technology we have found a way to attract children to learn in a way they can understand and grasp the situation. Some games even reach out to adults and seniors. I think it depends on the layout and design on the game, as well as it purpose of existence. Some games are made for fun, but always keeps your brain busy, and some are made to teach people.
Playing video games to get smarter seems as effective as watching work out video's to lose weight and not working out with them. The problem with games like this, is if you are already pretty smart you will figure out the pattern and then be able to get thru them quickly without effort. If you are not as gifted then they become work, and no longer fun. If you've ever bought a game that sucked you know that you pretty much will go thru the motions until you either pass the game (if you're a dedicated gamer) or take it to the nearest game store and hope to get at least $2 trade in credit.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking that if everyone just spent the time to study rather than spending the time to play the games, we would all be in a better place! DUH!!!! =)
